Imam Abdul Haqq, who is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, has been imam of the Carbondale Muslim Center for over 40 years. His efforts in social justice and building collaborations is rooted in his initial successful efforts to find the common ground to build upon while discovering better opportunities to strengthen relationships between his Christian mother and her Muslim son and family. He has served as an Islamic Chaplain in the prison system for more than 40 years, and he is the director of the non for profit Attucks Community Services, which serves disadvantaged populations in the area. He has also been instrumental in the Ralph Anderson Interfaith Dialogues.
